"Knowing your naked truth will
create the path for self-love and happiness."
- Maritza Dearing
Pregnancy, childbirth and everything thereafter is a magical time, and can also be quite traumatic.
At 50 years old, and a mother of three young children, I’ve learned that if we embrace the changes and experiences that come with motherhood with patience and self- love, we will find that we can get our physical, mental and emotional self back, often times, even better than before. The right mindset will allow us to embrace all the elements that come with motherhood, as we relish in the most blessed experience gifted to us.
Studies show that women who exercised during and soon after pregnancy were either less affected or promoted recovery from postpartum depression symptoms than women who didn’t. My personal experience exercising before, during and after (especially practicing Yoga and Meditation), while also making healthy food choices, proved correct with me. Including making the effort to find time to pamper myself and offering some guilt-free self quality time created a sense of rejuvenation and internal healing.
Allow yourself time to adjust to your new life while rebuilding and restoring not only your body, but more importantly, your mind and spirit. As you continue along the journey of motherhood with self-care and self-love, you may be surprised on the many ways you will re-discover yourself.
Be patient with yourself. Only do what you feel you can. Be realistic. If you feel you’re not ready to make any changes - don’t. And if so, allow yourself one small change per day, I promise you will feel better about continuing to get through it. Stay open and present and allow yourself to be inspired.
