This Challah Bread Orange Zest French Toast is everything!!
By Maritza Dearing
We absolutely love having fun breakfast meals on the weekends, and with three kids who are always looking to create fun ways to cook and bake, we came up with this french toast. It has become our most favorite thus far. The ingredients we've added along with the subtle taste of the orange zest when met with syrup is delectable. You will go back for seconds, maybe even thirds!
I'm not calling this recipe vegan only because the challah bread I used isn't vegan but the rest of this recipe is. If you wish, there are some vegan challah bread brands and many recipes (I haven't tried yet) that you can follow to make your own. You may also use other breads, but make sure they are thicker than traditional soft white bread. You can even use bread that is a bit stale or has hardened a bit. That keeps the bread from being drenched when dipped in the mixture.
This recipe is also an eggless recipe. We will use ground flaxseed instead to help bind the mixture to the bread. Just remember to slightly dip the bread into the mixture instead of fully soaking it, otherwise it will get drenched and take much longer to cook.
What you'll need:
Challah Bread (or any bread of your choice) cut about 3/4-1 inch thick
1 small orange to make 1 teaspoon of orange zest
1-1/2 cup of non-dairy milk. I always use coconut milk.
1/3 cup of ground flaxseed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
Coconut oil or coconut butter to add to griddle or pan
Try this zester
Wisk all the ingredients together minus the bread. Don't forget to add the orange zest!
Set your stove to medium heat or griddle too 350 degrees. Add a little coconut oil or coconut butter.
Lightly dip bread into the mixture covering both sides.
Cook for about 3-4 minutes each side.
It's best to serve and eat while it's hot and freshly made. Add syrup and any other fruits if you wish. Enjoy!!
Thanks for stopping by! Always sending you lots of love and light.
